If this is true, this has two potentially negative repercussions for the Jaguars.

 

First, a higher salary cap will enable teams to keep more of their players.  Instead of a guy like Greg Hardy walking, maybe now Carolina can accommodate his salary demands.

 

Secondly, a higher salary cap figure may cut into the Jaguars' profitability.  Teams will have to spend up to a certain percentage of the salary cap.  The higher that number is, the more in expenses each team will have.  To a low revenue team like the Jaguars, that may make a huge difference, especially when you factor in how much the Jaguars are contributing to the new video board.

I was never overtly concerned with signing guys along the caliber of Hardy and Graham anyway. I just have the feeling that their price tag is going to be too high for Caldwell's taste. Now, if that higher Cap means that some of the more moderately priced guys don't hit the market, then that will be upsetting.

 

As for how it will impact this team in terms of spending to the Cap, I feel confident that a big chunk of that will be taken up by the contracts of Posluszny and Lewis.

 

In short, the Cap doesn't worry me anywhere near as bad as it used to. Now if I were a Dallas fan? I'd be freaking out man.
