The Redskins taking Trent Williams sure has put them over the top.

 

The Rams taking Jason Smith in 2009 also sure turned their franchise around.

 

Same thing with the Bengals taking Andre Smith in 2009... sure made them playoff contenders (and had nothing to do with AJ Green and Andy Dalton and one of the best Defense's in the league"

 

Jake Long.... even as a perennial pro bowler, didn't help the Dolphins do squat. 

 

 

They are overrated to be taken so high.  Not needed. 

 

Even good tackles taken high on (now) good teams Russell Okung for the Seahawks.... the Seahawks have shown that they can win without him. 

 

I'm not an advocate for taking a LT high in this draft, but the value in a good LT comes when you have a QB worthy of their play. 

 

With the exception of Long, those tackles never justified their draft positions. I could argue that a great tackle can manipulate a lot of the offensive game plan. Tackles like Boselli, for example, could eliminate the defenses best players and often eliminate two defenders on run plays. I understand that few are as talented, but using examples of bad tackles to justify not taking one is a bit disingenuous.
