I would say he probably wants a high quality vet as his QB rather than a rookie or 2nd year guy, but I'd have to think he'd make an exception for Lawrence if he were interested in coaching somewhere else this year.

Why would he make an exception for Lawrence though? He hasn't shown that he's a Josh Allen or Justin Herbert. He has flashes and I am hopeful that he turns it around, but let's not act like Lawrence is some draw for a coach.

And if he thinks the Saints would be a challenging few years then how the would he think the Jags are any better?

Josh Allen and Justin Herbert once established probably aren't helping create coaching vacancies on their teams any time soon.  I get your sentiment and how you arrive at it, but QB performance isn't determined in a vacuum.  There are others involved that are partially responsible for his under-performance.  I saw what I needed to see from him to believe he will develop into a top 5 QB in this league though.  He stands tall in the pocket and climbs it and goes through his progressions and generally gets the ball out quickly.  His mechanics are sound.  He has wheels and uses them sparingly which is a good thing for his longevity, but can make plays if necessary when nothing else is there.  He has a calm and confident demeanor when speaking.  He has everything you want in your franchise QB hopefully for the next 15 years.  If Payton wants another gig this year or next, he'll be hard pressed to find a better opportunity if he's thinking 10+ years out.
