I think many fans assume that a visit means the team has a high interest in the player. However, in many cases, I think it is more of a case of the team not being sure how to rank a player. With Stingley, my guess is that they feel a visit will give them better intel on his injury and ultimately where to rank him. If we were to assume that a visit means high interest, yes, this would be surprising to me. If I had to make a list of players likely to be drafted early, but not be on the Jaguars, he would be very high on it. Stingley isn't good enough to even be in the conversation for the #1 overall pick. He's also too good to fall to the #33 overall pick. He fits nicely in the middle. Even if the Jaguars were to significantly trade down from #1, that would likely be in the area where a wide receiver or other positions of need would make sense. Outside of quarterback, cornerback is our position of least need for a starter. We have 3 quality starters with two being recent free agent signings (with big cap hits if cut) and the other being an early draft pick from just last year. I think it is safe to say that Stingley won't be a Jaguar. |
