I suspect there might be a large number of kids who hear about this kind of thing and wonder if they should try it out, but relatively few who follow through to the point of changing their identity long term.

Kids in this category are killing themselves at alarming rates.  As much as I agree with your first instinct to have a skeptical and harsh response, this isn't drug abuse or casual sex or playing with matches or reckless driving.  This is deliberate self harm from a depressed and hopeless mental state.  Do you really think a skeptical and harsh response would be best?

At an alarming rate? That may be a bit hyperbolic. Doesn’t it seem odd that this wasn’t an urgent social issue until the left started losing platforms to rally voters? They’re losing on crime, inflation, immigration and people are becoming increasingly weary of the constant and ever-changing aspects of racism accusations. Nothing remains but to align themselves with the nebulous world of sexual proclivity while unwittingly(?) enlisting the support of child groomers to push an agenda ‘to protect the children’. Make no mistake, the pressure children feel today about gender identity is fomented and applied by a deviant left searching for an issue to leverage purely for the sake of power and control. The fact they’re exploiting children to achieve that end is what is truly alarming - and disgusting.
