If the team is banking on him getting better year by year, they may be able to extend Allen for less than premium pass rusher market value if they do it early.

If Allen is banking on himself getting better, he may want to let next year play out.

Either way, it's a risk for both sides.

Personally, Allen seems to have some great leadership qualities, but I'd like to see more from him on the field.
