The longevity argument cuts the other way too.  You can find DTs with 5 good years left in free agency.  They cost a lot but they are available every year.  You usually can't find RBs with 5 good years left in free agency, so it's more critical to find one in the draft.

The Chiefs drafted their star running back in the 7th round last year, 2 rounds after we drafted our second RB in two seasons. We've spent a 1st, a 5th, and two 6ths for what will likely be the equivalent amount of production after the coming year.

And yes, we signed Fatukasi to a ridiculously huge deal when we could be paying Barmore on a rookie one.
