A Democratic Party leader thanked the Minneapolis police and pushed to prosecute youths "running wild" after she was carjacked Tuesday, despite previous support for dismantling the department.

Shivanthi Sathanandan, the 2nd Vice Chairwoman for the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, posted on Facebook Wednesday that she was "violently carjacked" by "four very young men, all carrying guns." She said they assaulted her in front her children outside their home in broad daylight. She also included a photo of her head injuries and reported having a "broken leg, deep lacerations on my head, bruising and cuts" around her body as well as feeling "rage" against the lack of accountability against criminals…

Though she thanked police officers for their response, at the height of the George Floyd riots in June 2020, Sathanandan wrote Facebook posts supporting efforts to "dismantle" the police.

"We are going to dismantle the Minneapolis Police Department. Say it with me. DISMANTLE. The. Minneapolis. Police. Department," she wrote, "As allies, what can we do right now? LISTEN and LEARN from our Black siblings. And then AMPLIFY this message right now, in this moment. MPD has systematically failed the Black Community, they have failed ALL OF US. It's time to build a new infrastructure that works for ALL communities. If you are still disagreeing with that BASIC FACT, I'm not sure what to say to you."…

In another post, she applauded efforts to remove the Minneapolis Police Department from public schools. "Thank you, Minneapolis School Board Members, for getting this done! Exactly as it should be - MPD should have no place in our children's schools," Sathanandan wrote at the time...

I think that outside of a few "radicals" and a few cities still deeply embroiled in some bad budgeting decisions, most of the defunding and dismantling fervor has settled into "let's be smarter about how we budget law enforcement and let these indictments and convictions send a message about undue lethal force." 

The defund/dismantle stuff from various political figures was akin to the Monday morning overreactions we see in the football forum after a loss. 

It has since returned to some semblance of "cooler heads prevailing" in most places where it flared up. 
Of course, the infotainment set that leans right is going to tell you otherwise, but... it really isn't "a thing" anymore in most places. 

Sadly - this is the nature of our political landscape currently. It ominously mirrors the instant gratification and mob-mentality of our internet fueled media and social discourse. Over-the-top oneupmanship has no place in politics, but we are seeing it more and more prevalently. Pardon the old man yelling at a cloud, but I long for a time when political reactions were more carefully measured.

Agreed but this particular case of oneupsmanship is literally getting people killed and its effects are rippling for years to come as police forces around the country struggle to attract and maintain officers. It would have been easy enough to thwart if the reaction from the left (including the MSM) had been ‘Bad Idea’. Instead, they allowed themselves to hide behind words like “reimagining” and “aspirational”. It was the ideological coward’s way out.

Now Eric Adams has gone from elevating illegal immigrants to the “level of Lady Liberty” to yesterday proclaiming they will “destroy” NYC. As of this week, thousands of non-English speaking children will begin attending public schools in New York who have not been immunized and have no medical records. And yet, our southern border remains wide open with absolutely no political will to address it. 

Yes, we need more measured political responses, but I do not see that happening soon as the left become more institutionally entrenched. And if a Republican becomes president, we can most certainly count on the cycle of insanity to begin anew.
