Sanders was trying to be the peacemaker while this happened, but he brought this "expert" to testify knowing that he has a history of attacking Senators.
That doesn't excuse Mullin for taking the bait though.  Way beneath the dignity of the Senate, but apparently this is who we are now and what we want.

No doubt. Mullin actually began his statement pretty well by acknowledging their previous disagreement with an air of magnanimity, and then he pulled out the social media posts. He's a former MMA fighter who fell back into his fighting persona. He needs to control that if he wants to be a serious leader, or we'll have to get Tony Khan involved.

At least something would finally happen in a committee. Huge waste of money for all these committees that do nothing.

While yes they shouldn't have acted like this, the committees are used to get sound bites and quotes for their reelections as they usually produce no actual output for their voters.
