Another QB post yay...this one on "off target charting"

#14

I don't really have a favorite QB in this draft class. I think that Teddy is ready now...but I have said in the past (while many people still had Bortles as a 2nd round) that I felt Bortles could be the best qb out of this draft in a few years. However, there are a few things that I look at when comparing the big 3.

Teddy Bridgewater cmp 303 att 427 yds 3970 comp% 71.0 ypa 9.30 tds 31 ints 4  sacks 23 rating 171.1

Johnny Manziel       cmp 300 att 429 yds 4114 comp% 69.9 ypa 9.59 tds 37 ints 13 sacks 19 rating 172.9

The main one I look at is the comp%. I don't really care about deep balls because there don't seem to be a ton of them in a game anyways, sure there are some..but not many. I also look at how many interceptions were thrown because that tells me that the QB is either really smart or has really good receivers. The other one I look at is Sacks which tells me that the QB is either really smart...really dumb..or the oline is good/bad.

So when I look at these numbers I see Teddy Bridgewater being better. I see TB throwing 2 fewer passes while completing 3 more than JM. I see JM throwing for roughly 150 more yds than TB. I see JM throwing more than triple the amount of Interceptions than TB. I also see everyone talking about how great JM is at making plays and avoiding being sacked...yet JM has 4 fewer sacks... I don't understand why everyone is so excited for JM...sure..he seems to make plays...but Teddy just seems to play and he gets basically the same exact results.

Here's what else I see.

(2012 stats)

<div>Johnny Manziel    cmp 295 att 434 yds 3706 comp% 68.0 ypa 8.54 tds 26 ints 9  sacks 22 rating 155.3

Teddy Bridgewater cmp 287 att 419 yds 3718 comp% 68.5 ypa 8.87 tds 27 ints 8  sacks 28 rating 160.5

I again see TB having a higher comp % fewer interceptions and more sacks. Everyone seems to be so excited about JM's ability to avoid the sack I expected to see him have like 10-15 sacks for 2013 a criticism I have heard about TB is that he takes to many sacks...but yet in 2013 TB had 4 more sacks. So it seems 19 sacks is godly 23 sacks is bust.

I dunno I don't get into the stats normally, in fact this is the first time I've looked at their stats side by side. I simply see a better player in TB. The previous poster said "Manziel rushed for a career 2,169 yards and 30 touchdowns to Bridgewater's 170 yards and six touchdowns." While that's nice and all....I'd prefer a QB over a RB. To me if you have to run for over 2k yards...somethings wrong. Either you just like to run or your team really sucks. There is no reason for a QB to have to run that many times in my opinion. Running is a nice OPTION passing is a REQUIREMENT and TB just seems to be better in the passing department, I don't see a year where JM has been better statistically than TB.
