Another QB post yay...this one on "off target charting"
|
John Pollard @JPSTATS 12m
Top QB prospect Off Target Throws Kinda like the other charts, this is subjective of course. Different people might look at the same passes and come up with different numbers(especially ones with names like JFF4lyfe or JohnnyJaguar for example)...but from the tons of cutups I've watched I think it is pretty accurate. ![]() We show less advertisements to registered users. Give me defense or Watkins in the 1st, McCarron in the 2nd ,and Mettenberger late.

Useless chart, doesnt show area of the field the passes are.

actually that chart is kinda funny since people question Teddys deep ball but he has 32 over throws. I wonder how many were on the deep ball

I think "overthrown" really only applies to deeper passes for the most part because it implies a vertical pass. "Thrown wide" applies to those intermediate/short throws coming across the field. Just guessing but it made sense in my head.
Whenever ESPN posts stuff like this, I think, "thank you Mr. Obvious, everybody already knows that". Then I come to these boards and go, Holy-Hell! Keep posting stuff like this ESPN, Jaguar fans apparently still don't know this stuff.

Manziel rushed for a career 2,169 yards and 30 touchdowns to Bridgewater's 170 yards and six touchdowns.
I want 3 players. Clowney, Bridgewater, Manziel. Jaguars have the number 3 pick. Just give me one of those 3 at 3, and I'm happy.

I don't really have a favorite QB in this draft class. I think that Teddy is ready now...but I have said in the past (while many people still had Bortles as a 2nd round) that I felt Bortles could be the best qb out of this draft in a few years. However, there are a few things that I look at when comparing the big 3.
Teddy Bridgewater cmp 303 att 427 yds 3970 comp% 71.0 ypa 9.30 tds 31 ints 4 sacks 23 rating 171.1 Johnny Manziel cmp 300 att 429 yds 4114 comp% 69.9 ypa 9.59 tds 37 ints 13 sacks 19 rating 172.9 The main one I look at is the comp%. I don't really care about deep balls because there don't seem to be a ton of them in a game anyways, sure there are some..but not many. I also look at how many interceptions were thrown because that tells me that the QB is either really smart or has really good receivers. The other one I look at is Sacks which tells me that the QB is either really smart...really dumb..or the oline is good/bad. So when I look at these numbers I see Teddy Bridgewater being better. I see TB throwing 2 fewer passes while completing 3 more than JM. I see JM throwing for roughly 150 more yds than TB. I see JM throwing more than triple the amount of Interceptions than TB. I also see everyone talking about how great JM is at making plays and avoiding being sacked...yet JM has 4 fewer sacks... I don't understand why everyone is so excited for JM...sure..he seems to make plays...but Teddy just seems to play and he gets basically the same exact results. Here's what else I see. (2012 stats) <div>Johnny Manziel cmp 295 att 434 yds 3706 comp% 68.0 ypa 8.54 tds 26 ints 9 sacks 22 rating 155.3 Teddy Bridgewater cmp 287 att 419 yds 3718 comp% 68.5 ypa 8.87 tds 27 ints 8 sacks 28 rating 160.5 I again see TB having a higher comp % fewer interceptions and more sacks. Everyone seems to be so excited about JM's ability to avoid the sack I expected to see him have like 10-15 sacks for 2013 a criticism I have heard about TB is that he takes to many sacks...but yet in 2013 TB had 4 more sacks. So it seems 19 sacks is godly 23 sacks is bust. I dunno I don't get into the stats normally, in fact this is the first time I've looked at their stats side by side. I simply see a better player in TB. The previous poster said "Manziel rushed for a career 2,169 yards and 30 touchdowns to Bridgewater's 170 yards and six touchdowns." While that's nice and all....I'd prefer a QB over a RB. To me if you have to run for over 2k yards...somethings wrong. Either you just like to run or your team really sucks. There is no reason for a QB to have to run that many times in my opinion. Running is a nice OPTION passing is a REQUIREMENT and TB just seems to be better in the passing department, I don't see a year where JM has been better statistically than TB. </div>

To me if you have to run for over 2k yards...somethings wrong.Good point. But the real point here is not that Manziel had all those rushing yards, but that Manziel had the same/more yards passing than Bridgewater, "PLUS" all those rushing yards. Listen, I agree with you AIsJagsFan, it would be one thing to say that Manziel and Bridgewater have the same amount of 'total yards', but then admit that most of Manziel's were gained on the ground. But it's just the opposite in fact. For it's another whole thing entirely to say that statistically Manziel matches up almost identically to Bridgewater in passing-yards, yards per attempt, total QBR, etc, AND on top of all that, has nearly ten-times the rushing yards. The real point of KYjaggy's OP was about passing though, and I think we can say confidently that both Teddy and Johnny are great passers, in fact their collegiate passing-statistics match up more eerily than may people realize, as shown by the diagram I posted above. Whichever one the JAgs pick is a win-win IMO then, and will give us a better 'passing-QB' than we've had in years.

One played in a pro style run first offense where he had to make presnap reads and adjust the play....the other played in a shotgun and never audibled or even knew what the d was going to do....THAT is what makes Teddy better...not the stats.
If that RV sales place wants Tebow in Jax bad enough to take out a billboard saying as much.....they should just HIRE him.
I'll take the guy who plays like a pro in college over the guy who plays like a college player in college and will have to learn how to play like a pro. Teddy is ahead of the curve in what it takes to play the Qb position, IQ and he'll only get better

Quote:Good point. But the real point here is not that Manziel had all those rushing yards, but that Manziel had the same/more yards passing than Bridgewater, "PLUS" all those rushing yards. From what little information I have gathered from various different articles the reason for the rushing differences are because JM had ran that style of offense...which rarely works in the NFL. While many people point to the likes of Cam, Russell, or Colin as being the "modern mobile QB". The only one on that list that I actually think is good is Cam, the others are decent but they are not the reason (imo) their team did anything last year. TB did what he did while playing exactly like he will in the NFL, JM did not...no one knows if he will be able to play in the NFL because of his "style". When I hear that coordinators are going to have to do things specifically to his strengths it kinda concerns me. Another thing that I have learned is that JM has a top 10 WR in the NFL draft...and a top 10 OL men in this years draft (and last years). He had a really good OLine and at least 1 really good WR, odds are he won't have one or both of those in the NFL. It just doesn't spell good things IMO. However if Dave Caldwell believes that JM is his QB then I will support the pick. I know I am not an expert on all stuff college or qb. My personal opinion keeps changing from select TB with our first pick or go with Watkins/Mack in round 1 then go QB in 2.

Quote:Good point. But the real point here is not that Manziel had all those rushing yards, but that Manziel had the same/more yards passing than Bridgewater, "PLUS" all those rushing yards.By Manziel's own admission, his coaches didn't trust his knowledge of the game; they expected him to just "make a play." And the offense that they run is highly conductive to passing for huge stats--it's called the Air Raid for a reason. I'm a Texas Tech fan, and we've run the same offense (with worse players) for years, with people like Graham Harrell and Seth Doege putting up better or similar numbers than Manziel. Manziel is ELECTRIC as a college football player (like a certain Florida star we all know), but I'm not sure it will translate to the NFL. Teddy's game, however, is highly transferrable, being from a pro style offense and putting up those kinds of numbers. It's why I prefer him. That's not to say Manziel can't be good; it's just too much of a risk IMO.
