They put all of their eggs in the ‘prosecute Trump’ basket and it’s having the opposite effect. They’ve painted themselves into a corner.

Speaking only anecdotally, my wife's family is full of Democrats who disprove that statement. Just yesterday I asked a few them conversationally about their view of Biden and the uniform response was akin to "He's not Trump so we'll take it." I think most dems are of that same position, they really love the D no matter how hard it [BLEEP] them.

For many, I don't think it's as much love of the D, as hatred of the T, though when they get to the polls, the distinction becomes irrelevant.  

I have a few friends who lean left but aren't hardcore.   While otherwise reasonably openminded, the first mention of Trump gets them foaming at the mouth.  Any criticism of Biden generates an instant rebuttal beginning with the words "But Trump........"  (Not unlike a couple of posters here.)  I enjoy setting them off with a question like, "Who had the better border policy?" and watching their heads explode.
