It doesn't matter if one can name another person who went to jail for the same proven offense.  It is still a federal felony which was proven with overwhelming evidence.  There is no need for being charged and/or convicted of another crime.

Lots of forms warn lots of people of dire consequences. Yet actual prosecution is extremely rare, in fact it almost never happens.
I think there are too many forms to fill out in this country in general. I think it is too hard to comply with the letter of the law while filling out confusing forms. Lots of people fill them out incorrectly. But that's not the conversation we're having.
