Nowadays we just yell at each other.

That's because there was no internet.  Our local debates used to come in a bar after a few beers, to which we joked about things the next day since our greatest battle was the resulting hangover.  Nowadays, people can just rant online and build up bitterness that would not apply if things were done face to face.
