Cutting the Cord?

Took the next step and cancelled Dish Network starting on Monday (couldn't risk not seeing the Jaguars game). According to the tracking from FedEx I should get the dish and router Monday. I have all of the other parts to do the install.
I'm kind of surprised that Dish didn't want any of their equipment back. I may hack the receiver and see if I can make it into a DVR. It's nothing more than a Linux computer. I did something like that years ago with a Tivo that made it into a DVR and a media server where I could access and watch whatever was on it from anywhere on my home network. Yes, I am a geek.
