I really would like to see the kid move more in and out of the pocket though. I am 100% convinced he's at his absolute best as a passer when he's not being asked to drop back as a traditional pocket Quarterback.

There's a lot of give and take with his game. I expect everything to be wrinkled out by this Sunday.

It's somewhat analytical and historical based though. Each week I was looking for them to make and adjustment here and an adjustment there on offense. They really have.

It was something I said we would start seeing after the first two weeks of struggling. They made it clear what they wanted to do in the off season. 

1. Get better at running the football, which they have.

2. More work from under center so they could have more opportunities to work the play action game for chunk plays. Which they have.

We didn't get to see much in Buffalo because that game got out of hand quickly for the defense. However, the few earlier series I recall of on offense, they were using more heavy set packages in short yardage situations to pick-up the first downs on the ground. 

The next, natural step, which we saw in Houston, was a lot of the gun and quick stuff, a screen or two, etc. They're blending their old concepts that worked in 2022 and 2023 into what they wanted to do from the giddy up in 2024. 

Week five should be about right, where, we see these ideas become more of a reality. Where the vision is more clear. They've been a heavy run first team on offense this year. The next step in my opinion, comes from Press feeling the game out and Trevor executing better. 

That's about it really. Press was starting to get ahead of Houston's tendencies on defense, that's why we had multiple passing play opportunities wide open. I expect the same exact game to be called with a slight difference because the clots are less top heavy with their front four but more loaded in their linebacking core.

Don't be shocked to see split backfield formations in this one to get those linebackers away from the middle of the field to enable Kirk, Strange and Thomas to get chunks downfield while also getting them to get into a situation where they have to start pinching back inside which gives Etienne and Bigsby some quick hitting options in the passing game on the outside. 

We're overdue for a nice swing pass or two going for 25+.

I expect more motion to determine if it's zone or man. If it's zone? Swing passes, if it's man? Chunk passes down the middle. You have to keep doing this off and on and then sprinkle in a nice run or two, a nice bootleg and deep shot or two to BTJ and Davis.
