I'm glad we got a young offensive mind in Coen per Lawerence's stated preference for such a guy. I'm not personally "excited" or "despondent" about any specific hire at this stage though, including Coen. I probably would have been modestly excited had we landed Vrabel, though. This could blow up spectacularly or could prove to be just what the doctor ordered. I'll wait to see how it plays out starting in September.

I'm concerned about the GM spot though. We went from historically being terrible at drafting to somewhat average during Baalke's tenure. Baalke had by far his best draft move of his career last year by trading back and still landing BTJ, which probably saved him at season's end, but ultimately wasn't enough given the circumstances. There's no guarantee that whoever we bring in doesn't take us back to our historically bad drafting habits is all. Baalke had to go though given the prevailing perception about him not only amongst fans but apparently amongst the coaching ranks as well. Khan, who probably still disagrees with that perception, really had no choice staring at the prospect of being rejected by two top offensive minds during this coaching cycle and thereby being forced to hire a guy that was not preferred with the understanding he'd probably be doing this whole thing again in a year or two as a result.

Khan being hands off has its advantages, sure, but I'm starting to wonder if he's too hands off. Is he or Tony mingling enough or mingling at all with opposing coaches and front office staff during league meetings for instance? I get the sense he may not be and that type of activity is important to building relationships within the league for future openings that might occur here.

Anyway, let's hope this all works out for Trevor's sake and for our sake as fans.
