My wife's a teacher, and I'm a parent. And I agree that teachers definitely don't get the respect they deserve. But I do think pushing a student is going a bit far. There are other disciplinary actions available. Jailtime seems a bit ridiculous though. I could see a short-term suspension. But I could also see a suspension for the kid.
Teachers are often sadly under a microscope. Anything they do, even at home, is considered representing the school.
