Buchanon definitely earns blame for the dirty hit, but guess what, dirty hits happen. As a player (target) you gotta be smart. Ergo, why players like Jerry Rice would often take the smart route and simply go out of bounds a lot rather than fight for that extra 10-20 inches. 

 

Had Banks done that, he'd have lived his NFL career another day. I wish he would have. He was a special talent. 

 

Did Buchanon ever get fined for the hit?? I know they go back and review questionable hits.
