His offensive coordinator was his QB coach in college.   Coaches are only allowed to interact with student athletes for a limited number of hours in the day per NCAA rules, so  Taafe was likely spending a lot more time on strategic assignments and opponent gameplans for the upcoming week than throwing fundamentals.   Bortles is also a little behind   in that the  played in a single wing T option offense in high school.   

 

This is why the Jags are so smart to sit him for a year and make sure his fundamentals are rock solid before they put him on the big stage.    The fundamentals need to be second nature and involuntary muscle reaction by the time he's asked to execute the offensive assignments and memorize weekly opponent gameplans and tendencies.
