The problem with world cup officials, is that they are from the 32 participating countries, so how can you expect an official from a small country with a part-time league to perform as well as officials from your big leagues in Europe? Imagine high-school referees in the NFL.. oh that happened.

There no small time refs in the World Cup. FIFA refs are essentially groomed by having the lead consecutively more important matches. The Dutch ref this World Cup may comeffrom the ti y Eredivisie but he has been building a career for years and this year led the CL final.


Not to men tion they have performance reviews for each game and often don't get picked for more games when they perofrm badly.


The FIFA may be corrupt but I doubt any of the refs this World Cup are.
