Bortles Developing Faster than anticipated?

What's your point there again?  Did you actually SEE what Geno Smith did as a rookie?  He should be a cautionary tale.

To answer your question, I don't think Bortles is going to prove he's ready to assume the starting role in the preseason, especially if he's spending most of his time on the field with the backups on both sides of the ball.  I know some here, like you, will immediately demand he start based on how he does against scrubs who won't be in the league a couple of weeks from now, but the coaches are smart enough to recognize progress, and to understand where he's at, and I don't think they'll be as easily swayed as someone of your ilk would be.

There is a QB competition going on right now.  That's the point you really just can't seem to grasp.  Bortles is competing with himself to get to the point where the coaches are comfortable that he's ready to start.  He's not competing with Henne, but I wouldn't expect you to follow the logic here.
Emulate: 1. To strive to equal or excel, especially through imitation.

2. To compete with successfully; approach or attain equality with.

Yeah emulate still means what I thought it meant. Comparing situations is what I was doing with Geno and Blake, had nothing to do with emulating no one on another team. Like I said if he's to emulate anybody it would be Henne who is his competition first and a psuedo-mentor to him second. Im pretty sure he will get first string reps with the team in the preseason just like the other two first round quarterbacks that were drafted in his draft with him.

If he doesn't get 1st reps that's stupid because Henne is not the future Bortles is. Even in this flawed concept of giving the starting position to Henne you have to prep your future as much as possible. Giving him no reps with the first team this whole preseason will make no sense. Everybody knows Henne will not get this team to the playoffs this year so it would be a detriment to the team to treat the 3rd pick in the draft a like a total backup.
