Bortles Developing Faster than anticipated?

Quote:Does Bradley knock Henne for being inconsistent also?

I am sure he has. But the bottom line is that, our receivers are still unproven, our offensive lineman are new and still developing together. And atleast Henne has a year under his belt in Fisch's system.

You say "being consistent just comes with time and patience and practice". How much time and patience and practice? Henne has been in the league going on 7 years now and he is the epitome of Inconsistent.

How much time, patience, and practice is up to the football player and the personnel decision makers. And I don't disagree with Henne being inconsistent throughout his career. But I'd rather him take the punches right now with a young offense around him. Rather then throw Bortles out there which could potentially rock his confidence and hurt/hinder his development mentally. When you've got a Greatsword to fight with. You don't run out into battle with it dulled. You take your time with it, you sharpen it up.

I don't really remember back when Henne was a rookie and how inconsistent he was, but I know that right now 7 years later, he is still very inconsistent out there on the football field.

Agreed.

I can only assume he is better today as a 6/7 yr vet then he was as a rookie, but that doesn't change the fact that he is still very inconsistent as a starting NFL QB.

Agreed.

How much more time, patience and practice will it take for Henne to become more consistent as a starting NFL QB?

Henne has reached his ceiling. We all know that. But, again, this is not about Henne. This is about protecting our investment in Bortles and getting it right this time. Where is the fire? We'll see soon enough with Bortles. My whole point is that, over the last ten years, we've failed not once, but twice with top ten selected QB's. And you cannot mess that up.

I'm not saying Bortles should start over because I do believe that he can learn a lot from watching from the sideline.

That's the point.

And yes, there are even things he can learn from watching Henne play. He can learn the importance of being consistent for one thing.

Exactly. I think he'll learn a bit more than that though. Henne might be a lot of things. He may be inconsistent, etc. But atleast the guy has managed to stick around for six or seven years. And it's not because he's flatout terrible. He does enough. This fanbase has to be patience though. Good football years are ahead of us. But we can wait a bit longer. What's the harm in letting Henne play this year and next while Caldwell continues to develop a roster to enable Bortles to be succesful?
