The critics said the same thing when the Nets signed him. "Oh they can't cut him or else they'll get a backlash!" Yet, the only "rally" that actually occurred were those protesting the Nets signing Collins. His fans cheered when he played a minute of his first game...and that was really the last you heard from them.

 

Sure, Collins was old and likely wouldn't have gotten a contract if it not for his history with the Nets (and its then HC Jason Kidd, who valued Twin's bball IQ and post defense during their NBA finals run). But, as I've said time and time again...for those people...this wasn't about basketball.
