Behind the second half collapse
|
Quote:Agreed, the awesomeness of the 1st half couldn't be sustained. Yes the offense in the second half was miserable. It doesn't have to be an indication that we aren't improved on offense, however. It is definitely an indication that there are young, inexperienced, and patchwork/journeyman players starting on offense though. Growing pains are to be expected under such conditions. Factor in the consistently inconsistent Henne and the six dropped passes and you have the perfect storm of miserable execution and growing pains that was the 2nd half by our offense. There were at least three crucial failures of execution on O that kept us from staying in the game by the offense. But really it was a combined effort or string of failures as it were. It made it so seem so contrasting from the first half that it's hard to pinpoint. But that's as it should be - since it can't truly be pinpointed to one player, play-call or miscue. There were many squandered opportunities. Still, the offense will likely continue to be very hot and cold for some time until youth, inexperience and patches give way to maturity, veteran-type presence and long term starters. Hopefully that doesn't mean that we may "really be that bad" often. But we probably will be at times. |
