Though we've had a few incidents bunched together it's still a minute percentage of the NFL that is causing problems. I'd wager that the number of DV incidents among NFL players as a percentage of the whole is significantly lower than the population at large. The outrage needs to be against failure of the league to have a plan for dealing with violent behaviors rather than the actual acts themselves, those are almost insignificant in the bigger picture if the league were prepared to deal with them fairly and consistently. At the same time, the number of these incidents have been so few, especially when we scale it down from "violent behavior" to adjective-based, highly-situational "domestic violence" that it's reasonable to assume that it hasn't been a problem until this one particular high publicity incident followed immediately by a few others brought it to light.
