Coughlin did his best bit of coaching with the Jaguars in his final season when he put a team on the field that had no business being competitive in most of their games, yet they somehow managed to play above their talent level.  It sure didn't seem like his team was tuning him out to me. 

 

He was responsible for blowing up the salary cap, but he was also the brain trust behind the turnaround.  Purging the roster of old, expensive talent was the first step.  Weaver caved to fan pressure when he fired Coughlin.  Had he kept Tom in place as the head coach and hired a new GM to manage the personnel, I think Tom would have gotten this team back on track and competitive within a year or two. 

 

Weaver admitted after selling the team that his biggest mistake as an owner was caving to the fans and firing Coughlin.
