Would You Trade Pick 3 Straight Up for Robert Quinn - DE - Rams?

#46

If the team needed a QB, I'd be all over that trade. Problem is that we have Bortles, and if you trade the third pick this year for a star QB, then one of those two premium picks is inevitably going to waste.

Quote:This thread is why the forums shouldn't ever delete semi-old threads (speaking of which I haven't come across an explanation as to why the forum does that if anyone wants to enlighten me.)  But not trading the #3 pick for JJ Watt is perhaps the greatest loss of opinion legitimacy that I have ever seen, particularly from fans that took Blaine Gabbert one pick ahead of him.
I had issues with the Gabbert pick from the start. It was pretty obvious that he was a system QB who was made to look better than he really was by Missouri's offense. I really wanted Ryan Kerrigan, Robert Quinn or, yes, Watt.

Here's the best defense I can muster for not trading the third pick for Watt, aside from my gut feeling that doing so would be a move we'd regret in three years and my general dislike of Madden-inspired trade scenarios that would never happen in real life anyway. What if Houston takes Leonard Williams with that third overall pick, and what if Williams ends up being better? It's worth noting that if Houston is willing to even entertain that trade, it would be because they know something about Watt that we don't, and because they believe that they can get a better player at three than what they have in Watt.

If Houston is willing to deal Watt and take a chance on the third pick, then two huge red flags come to mind. First, if the Texans believe someone better than Watt is available at three, why should we take a player that they clearly believe is inferior off their hands? Two, if Houston is willing to trade the best defender in the NFL away, what the heck must be wrong with him?!
