Ahh.. I'm sorry, just so darn tired of 0-3 every year, and the season being over by week 5. The Detroit Lions were always the butt of jokes when I was growing up (and well into my adulthood). We have been the laughingstocks for too long now. People have no idea just how steep the climb out of the hole we are in is. It could easily be another decade of losing if we can't get some of the most basic concepts figured out. Like the passing on of experience as an example. Nevertheless, I am more optimistic than I have been in a long time. But we have a long way to go, and I am impatient. I am intolerant of mistakes and excuses, and cheerleading. Give me a sack, give me a pick, give me a long reception. Give me back to back quick scores. How about a play that leaves a wide-receiver WIDE OPEN? When was the last time we had one of those? Or a walk in TD for a running back because of the deceptive misdirective nature of the play design.


The goal for this season needs to be getting the monkey off our backs, and giving back to Detroit, or the Jets or something. We need to kick-butt in game one, send a message to the NFL, and repeat the message enough times until the jokes are behind us. We need to play like they made fun of our mommas or something. Fight like Buster Douglas did to finally topple the monolithic Iron Mike Tyson. The D-line did that last year, and they gave me something to point to, to get excited about, and most of all, something to rely on. If we are ever going to take the mantle from Andrew Luck, we had better put some grass-seed in his mouthguard.


So, my apologies, the bitter taste of our (to me at least) worst in franchise history offense is still fresh in my own mouth. And we have a long way to go.. My kid is still a fan (I think). He doesn't wear a jersey anymore (who can blame him?).


We need to win early, knock off some marquis names - and let their fans gnash their teeth until we get some respect, and it's not that they lost, but that we won. We need to learn to improve in EVERY category, and then improve on that. Rant rant rant...sorry. Hopefully I'll be in better spirits after FA and the draft (this is the best part of the season for Jax fans).
