Question: Would anyone here be upset if we drafted a running back that turned out to be like Freddy or MJD? What if the pick was a high round pick, even a first rounder?

 

What if the Jags took Gurley, and he turned out to be the next Fred Taylor? Would people be upset if he were taken with pick #3?

 

I'm not so sure that I would be all that upset if the guy were a sure thing. I doubt this is even a remotely real scenario, but I would have zero problem personally with the team using a high pick on a RB if they feel that he is a special player. Honestly, I hope they do take a good RB in the upcoming draft. If it takes a higher pick, so be it. I think that will do wonders for this offense.

 

Bring on a stud RB.

 

PS: I'm glad it wasn't Murray. I think his best days are behind him. He may have another good year or maybe two, but give me a young guy instead.

I don't think the issue here is that 'we don't want a premier running back'. If we had one we would all be over joyed about it! The problem is that the Jags have been 'one dimensional' in the past in that they have featured the running game. In the pre-Peyton Manning era that was okay, but the game rules have changed to favor a passing intensive offense. No one is saying 'forget about the running game' but it clearly shouldn't be the featured aspect of the offense any more.

 

It's as simple as this; put a good passing team against a good running team and the passing team will win; that's the modern game with the rules that exist now. 'Back in the day' a statement like that would not have been true. Certainly we'd like a stud RB... but we need a stud o-line, QB and WR first. A balanced offense is great, and so far ours has been... we've been equally weak in both our passing and running game. That's got to change, and the passing game needs to 'man up' first.
