I commend you for doing the right thing. While it is a shame that you couldn't be there when your dog was put down, at least she was put down humanely. As someone who has been there and done it, I can say that they don't feel any pain. If your dog was in that bad of shape, putting her down was the right thing to do. Many people put off doing it for selfish reasons and the animal ends up suffering longer than it should. At least take some comfort in knowing that she isn't in any pain anymore.
