Mayweather v Pacquiao set for May 2nd

Quote:It's a fair point, but it happens all the time. Leftwich got praised for being "carried" by his teammates with a broken leg. Philip Rivers tore his ACL and kept playing in a playoff game. Pac got the USADA approval for the treatment. He thought he can get by after getting shots before the fight. When it was denied, the odds of him winning went down dramatically.

Still, no one is complaining that Pac lost the fight. The beef by most is how boring it was. Maybe the shoulder simply didn't hold up, but Pac through round 6 made concerted effort to get close. In the earlier rounds, all Floyd did whenever that happened was to clinch or to run away. Even after that, Floyd was doing his usual schtick (even though anyone who watched it could see that he clearly had the upper hand). Then in the last 30 seconds of round 12, he starts dancing around the ring like he then wanted to fight.

If he gave the fans that for at least the first 8 rounds, it probably wouldn't be a boring fight. He probably even hurts Pac a lot more, further making his win more impressive. Sure, he may have gotten tagged a few more times if he went at Pac like that, but I think he was the bigger guy, longer reach, better "boxer", and just as fast (and apparently going against someone who was injured). He would have prevailed regardless. It just would have made it a far better show.
Reading this made me chuckle a bit. You always hear how great a defensive boxer Mayweather is. Since when, and what other sport is hugging and clinching your opponent considered good defense. At least in wrestling or MMA you get in the clinch and you can get tossed, but in boxing it is "defense". Good stuff.
