40% of the homeless youth are LGBT.  You can say "Oh, there's all these starving kids in Africa", but once you do you're ignoring every problem we have in the world for a single focus (which you're also, coincidentally, not solving)  There's many problems in the world, and we can focus on more than one at a time.  


You don't have to agree with what Caitlyn Jenner did.  The real sad thing isn't that she's getting the award.  The real sad thing is that it took someone who's already famous to bring an important issue to the front.  If she were going around sleeping with kids, we would (quite rightfully) vilify her.  But what she's doing... how does it hurt you?  The treatment of LGB people has improved over the years, though we haven't seen much movement on the T front.  Again, you don't have to agree with her decision.  You DO have to treat her and other Trans like people.  


Like I said, 40% of homeless youth are LGBT.  That is staggering.  It shows that parents aren't accepting of their children, and that we have a long ways to go toward reducing familial rejection. I could never kick any of my children out, no matter what they came to tell me.  If it was something that harmed other people, I'd do my best to get them help so that they would not hurt anyone.  If it was something that didn't hurt anyone, I would do my best to be understanding.
