The thing is, Gus would probably make the hire anyway because he knows he needs good coaches around him. Gus's future isn't tied at all to Marrone, I think that's the misunderstanding a lot of people have. Gus needs to win a decent number of games this year. Doug Marrone has nothing to do with that. Having Marrone on staff puts no more pressure on Gus than there already is. Marrone "hypothetically" being a contingency just means that you have him there if the situation becomes shockingly bad this year.
