You do understand the difference between input and actually doing the hiring, right?

 

I hire and fire people in my position.  I'll consult my boss when necessary on a potential hire, but at the end of the day, it's my division and my people.  I'm the one doing the hiring, and I'm held accountable for those decisions.  The same situation exists inside Everbank Field.  Gus may consult Dave on hires, but Dave isn't hiring the coaching staff beyond the head coach himself.  Very few (maybe Dallas, Oakland, or SF) head coaches would work in an environment where he's being told who they will have on their staff. The head coach may run a hire by the GM, but in most instances, they work autonomously.  The GM provides the talent and the coach develops the players with a staff he assembled.
