OK, let me present three key Jaguar members and let me know if you buy or sell their ability to lead this team to success. I'll throw in my own thoughts as well.


Blake Bortles: I'm buying 100%. To be honest with you guys, I'm baffled by the bashing he receives be it locally or nationally. I've been watching the NFL for almost 40 years and from my experience, this guy has all the tools you need to succeed. He's tough, he's big, he's a hard worker, he has a big arm and he has motivation. Be it football, business, or any other passion in life, I've found that if you have enough tools and desire, you'll succeed. He will. This guy played with a slew of fellow rookies and a horrid offensive line and still moved the ball down the field. Granted, the overall stats were poor and many of the drives stalled or resulted in no points and/or turnovers. That said, he had the ability to extend drives. He's going to be good and if my instincts are correct, real good.


Gus Bradley: Sell. Call it being old school, call it being out of touch, call it whatever you want. I'm just racking my brain trying to recall successful NFL coaches who were high energy, positive reinforcement guys. The best coaches in NFL history weren't the nicest guys in the world. Belichick? Parcells? Lombardi? Walsh? Shula? Noll? Not exactly nice guys. Pete Carroll is probably the best example of the new age coach who can get results with a different approach. Bradley's obviously a disciple of his and I hope he goes on to prove me wrong. However, I'm not buying it. I think we need a hard-nosed coach to take this team up a notch or two. Nobody liked Coughlin much but that guy gets results.


Dave Caldwell: Buy. He's overturned this roster in just over two years and put this team in a position to be a winner for the next 3-5 years and beyond. The salary cap is as healthy as can be. He has (IMO) a franchise QB which is a must in today's NFL. He has (we hope) a franchise LT. Well OK maybe not. This year will go a long way in deciding Joeckel's future here. The jury's out but I think he can still be serviceable if not good. If not, we can always draft another. Caldwell's peppered this roster with solid players and done well in later rounds in the draft to round out the roster. He's addressed glaring needs and built the franchise the correct way without jeopardizing the future by overspending in FA and wrecking future salary caps.
