Jags Buy or Sell Candidates

#1

OK, let me present three key Jaguar members and let me know if you buy or sell their ability to lead this team to success. I'll throw in my own thoughts as well.

Blake Bortles: I'm buying 100%. To be honest with you guys, I'm baffled by the bashing he receives be it locally or nationally. I've been watching the NFL for almost 40 years and from my experience, this guy has all the tools you need to succeed. He's tough, he's big, he's a hard worker, he has a big arm and he has motivation. Be it football, business, or any other passion in life, I've found that if you have enough tools and desire, you'll succeed. He will. This guy played with a slew of fellow rookies and a horrid offensive line and still moved the ball down the field. Granted, the overall stats were poor and many of the drives stalled or resulted in no points and/or turnovers. That said, he had the ability to extend drives. He's going to be good and if my instincts are correct, real good.

Gus Bradley: Sell. Call it being old school, call it being out of touch, call it whatever you want. I'm just racking my brain trying to recall successful NFL coaches who were high energy, positive reinforcement guys. The best coaches in NFL history weren't the nicest guys in the world. Belichick? Parcells? Lombardi? Walsh? Shula? Noll? Not exactly nice guys. Pete Carroll is probably the best example of the new age coach who can get results with a different approach. Bradley's obviously a disciple of his and I hope he goes on to prove me wrong. However, I'm not buying it. I think we need a hard-nosed coach to take this team up a notch or two. Nobody liked Coughlin much but that guy gets results.

Dave Caldwell: Buy. He's overturned this roster in just over two years and put this team in a position to be a winner for the next 3-5 years and beyond. The salary cap is as healthy as can be. He has (IMO) a franchise QB which is a must in today's NFL. He has (we hope) a franchise LT. Well OK maybe not. This year will go a long way in deciding Joeckel's future here. The jury's out but I think he can still be serviceable if not good. If not, we can always draft another. Caldwell's peppered this roster with solid players and done well in later rounds in the draft to round out the roster. He's addressed glaring needs and built the franchise the correct way without jeopardizing the future by overspending in FA and wrecking future salary caps.

Two outta three ain't bad. What do you guys think? Other buy/sell candidates you want to comment on? Khan?

Buy all three. I think behind the scenes Caldwell persuaded Gus to revamp the offensive side because he saw a clueless Rex Ryan clone year ahead.

Luke Joeckel- Sell.  The LT position is the protector of the QB's blind side and often facing the best pass rushers of the opponent.  I saw an underperformer last year, putting the QB in frequent jeopardy, not playing anywhere near what you would expect out of the second pick of the draft. I think his fix is much more than adding a few pounds and an offseason program.  I hope I am wrong, but, unfortunately, am selling.

Allen Robinson- Buy.  I think this guy will step up and be a leader in the WR corps.  If the foot injury is fully mended, I see good things for this guy this year, with he and Thomas putting some concern into opponents.

Johnathan Cyprien- Sell.  As a growing leader in the secondary, and looking the part of a warrior, it's a shame that his game seemed to plateau last year at a mediocre level to me.  I have had very high hopes for this guy to reach an all-pro type of level.  I guess my hope has been minimized.  Again, I want to be wrong.

Bortles - Buy. I believe he can become the best QB in franchise history, and lead this team to uncharted territory (Super Bowl!) Of course, our coaching has to improve for Bortles to really step it up. Love his work ethic and determination.

Bradley - Sell. I think he's a case of the peter principle. Good defensive coordinator, but just isn't ready to lead this team. Good motivator but so far has not impressed too much with coaching.

Caldwell - Buy. Excellent drafting strategy. Perhaps made the roster a little too young, but I like the job he's done so far.

Khan - Buy. Good owner and is committed to Jacksonville and the Jaguars, regardless of the London rumors.

Anger - Buy. Punting this team to greatness!  :teehee:

Buy Bortles. Strong leader and physical ability to be great. Buy Telvin Smith. Can't teach his speed and vocal leader. Sell Marqise Lee Becoming injury prone and not so great at using hands to catch football.

I see no reason to buy Bradley other than he has been able to keep a stable locker room despite all the losing the last two years. His in game coaching has been pretty terrible.

I am hoping with the new assistant coaches, that we will see some improvement.

I'm buying Bortles and Caldwell as of now.

Selling Gus, his coaching has been bad.  Really bad.  I like Gus and who he is but I can't buy based on how poorly he's coached thus far.  I will say he was giving a poo offense to work with.  Both talent and scheme.

Here's to big improvements in 2015-16.

Bortles and Caldwell def buy.

Bradley, still a buy. I'm still thinking its a combination of lack of talent and not trying to break the spirits of a young team. This is the year he goes more "do your job" and holds people accountable. If we still pick top 5 with like 4 wins then I'll switch to sell. As of now I still believe in him

I'm going with the majority here, buy Bortles and Caldwell, and sell Bradley.

Why can't Khan hire a proven NFL head coach?

I am surprised at how many of you are willing to pass on Bradly so soon.  Look at the roster he has had to work with thus far.  What do you really expect with what he has had to work with?  This will be the year to truly evaluate what he brings to the table.  I think he finally has an OC that will embrace his philosophy and the talent to begin ascending.  I will pass judgement after we complete this year.

As for Blake, I am buying 100%

The overall plan for this franchise I am also all in.

I don't think most had high expectations the past two seasons. But Bradley has not shown in-game decision making to be a strength. His use of challenges and timeouts have been largely awful.

You are correct, however I was once a new hire myself on many occasions.  I learned much with each bad decision I made too.  With all of that knowledge gained from mistakes I managed to be considered at the top of my field.

Something to ponder.

You mean someone who has recently been fired for failing? Otherwise, who is this proven NFL head coach who should be hired?

And Don Shula doesn't count.

That combination of excuses is not a good explanation for his horrible game-management decisions last year; an area I actually think he regressed in from year 1 to year 2. Not knowing when to call a timeout was a constant problem last year, for example.

I'm not on the fire Gus bandwagon, but he certainly needs to show improvement this year. I think Doug Marrone's presence will help with that process, since he's seen a lot of the things Gus will see. An extra set of eyes doesn't hurt anyway.

Oh and I'm buying the Brandon Linder and Telvin Smith hype this year. I wanna say Bortles, but I'm not a big believer in the whole changing your mechanics/footwork/throwing motion in one offseason. I expect marginal improvement there.

As for a sell, I would sell Zane Beadles, cheap.
