Feds raid home of Subway spokesman Jared Fogle

Quote:Holy crap. Short answer to the quote--yes, absolutely, and it is a long settled principal of law and common sense that those who choose to enter the public eye can or SHOULD expect greater scrutiny and even have a higher standard when it comes winning a lawsuit for libel or slander. I suspect from previous posts that you are a lawyer of have something to do with the law. If that's the case, then I would never hire someone like you. I would argue that Jared chose to get a job and earn a living. Because his job ended up putting him in the public eye (not necessarily his choice), then by your words he "can or SHOULD expect greater scrutiny and even have a higher standard when it comes winning a lawsuit for libel or slander". Since when does the law state that because someone is in the "public eye" he or she should get greater scrutiny and have a "higher standard" than "Joe Public" when it comes to any lawsuit? Is implying that he is a pedophile when he has not been charged nor convicted of such crime not slander? Is it appropriate for someone not convicted of a crime to have to endure public ridicule? What if said ridicule was slanderous and implied something that the non-accused has to endure? Bruce Jenner was brought into the discussion to illustrate something. Yes he entered the public eye, but it was by something of his own doing, and he is ridiculed by some not because of a crime that he has been accused of, but because of his entrance into the public eye. Let's not forget that he/she has actually been accused of a crime. However, the jokes regarding him/her do not slander him/her, nor do they have any bearing on the outcome of his/her case. Jared has not been charged with a crime, even after this amount of time has passed since the investigation and raid of his home, yet there are people of your ilk ridiculing him and implying something that could affect his future career. Real funny "jokes". There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't. |
