Either scenario would be a disaster for whoever wins their party's nomination.
 

 

 I can't envision Ted Cruz running as a 3rd Party candidate in 2016.   Even if Cruz doesn't win the Republican Nomination in 2016,  he could decide to run for President in 2020 and/ or in another future election.    As a huge Ted Cruz supporter,  my take is one of his goals is for the Republican Party to go back to its Conservative foundation instead of looking like Democrat Party lite.   With an emphasis in the leadership of the party keeping its promises to the voters,  instead of what they are doing currently.
