Could the Jaguars trade Scobee? Ryan O thinks so. (Scobee Traded to steelers)
|
OK, so I haven't run the numbers, but I have had time to think this trade through.
The thing about Scobee, and it was discussed during last season is that on his longer kicks his trajectory has been closer to the line of scrimmage. To me this means his leg was (sorry to say) failing him. Yes, I know that we had protection issues, but that to me is a cop out. Kickers with a live leg can still get a kick above the hands of the line. Let's also remember that our line issues were really on the edges... The middle was pretty stout. I think we were collectively wishing that the failings of Scobee last year had a scape goat. But I don't think so... His leg has lost some strength, which is to be expected. There's a chance that the live leg of Meyers isn't as accurate. But there was obvious signs that anything beyond 45 yards was gonna be a gut job by Scobee anyways because of his dead leg. Yeah, I said it. Dead leg. To me, alot of his 42+ yard kicks looked dead last year. Sad to see him go, but glad we had a serviceable kicker to take the kicks. At the ends of the day, kicking is all about strength and muscle memory. If the kid has enough practice he'll be good. And because of his youth, he'll be able to boot above the line on the 45+ yarders. Scobee just doesn't have that in him anymore. Luckily, Scobee is going to the squeelers. He won't be kicking anything beyond 38 yards for that team, at least not when it matters. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! |
