Many of you might disagree with me, but I believe that this was the right move for the franchise. Scobee's a lot older now, and one has to wonder how much he has left in the tank. Signing a young guy like Myers and making him our starting kicker ensures the long term success of the franchise. There's no doubt that Scobee has been the best kicker we've ever had up to this point, and he's provided some of the most exciting and heartstopping moments in the team's history (59 yard game winning field goal against the Colts anyone?). However, I believe that his best days are well behind him, and we were inevitably going to have to get rid of Scobee sooner or later. We have a young, strong kicker in Myers, so why not make this decision easier and do it now? I greatly respect Scobee as both a man and as a player, and for everything he's done for the Jaguars and the local community, but it's time to move on and embrace Myers.

 

 

You've got to hand it to Myers though for winning this job, and giving an experienced kicker such as Scobee a helluva of a fight. Not too many players from small college's like Myers's get to play in the NFL, let alone win the starting job, but he has. He deserves a lot of respect; regardless of how you might feel about the guy and this decision. This team and coaching staff are definitely going to be tested this season with all these adversities and setbacks, but one thing's for sure though; we're definitely going to know by the end of the season just how tough, disciplined, and "good" this team really is.
