Garrard was the VETERAN starting quarterback with two separate playoff runs under his belt. You don't cut your VETERAN starting quarterback with two separate playoff runs under his belt because of injury even when it's a week before the start of the season, particularly when you have a rookie back up.

 

Garrard was expected to provide veteran leadership and mentor Gabbert during his long-haul development as an NFL player. This grooming is always expected to take three to five NFL seasons. Even if Garrard needed disc surgery and was placed on the IR, he would still be in the organization and on the sideline feeding Gabbert his knowledge of the game and the QB position.

 

The move to dump Garrard a week before the season started was regarded as a ridiculously stupid move by a sleezy, low class GM and cheap NFL owner. The NFL community was livid at the franchise for such a disgusting, disgraceful front office. It remains outrageous to this day.

 

It did nothing, but destroy any chance that Blaine Gabbert would develop into a pro player and trashed a solid veteran football player.

 

This stupid mistake was a major factor in the change of ownership and the long-anticipated removal of a totally incompetent front office regime. Weaver was simply the laughingstock for making yet another completely stupid football mistake.
