Back to the point though, I don't feel like I'm being overly dramatic here since it's extremely rare for a long-time coach to retire in the middle of a football season. Yes, coaches do get fired in the middle of the season but I don't think I can remember any long-tenured coach retiring in October. Even Spurrier, when he abruptly left Florida in '02 at least waited for the end of the year to walk away from his football team.

 

Drama queen isn't really an insult, but ok get butt hurt about it.

 

This situation is no different than a mid-season firing. I dont know why people are getting hung up on this.  Spurrier is smart enough to know that he would be fired if he wasn't who he is, so he did the right thing and took it upon himself rather than holding an entire program hostage for several years.
