Safety is more about positioning, awareness and communication. you can get away with subpar speed and quickness to some extent. as for the reason CB's dont need to run the 40 like WR's do its because there are rarely times in a game where they'll sprint 40 yards from a dead stop. the 3 cone which tests speed and change of direction, as well as short shuttle are better metrics because it's stop start quickness being measured rather than flat speed. it doesnt matter if you ran a 4.01 40 if a WR can seperate from you with a single cut yk
