It's clear he's nowhere near as powerful as he thinks he is which is probably why he fell to dark side, since it promised him more power more easily than he thinks the light side can offer. It's clear they're setting him up as the redemption character but I hope he doesn't get redeemed, it would be too easy a story line for him. 

 

One thing that the movie "missed" in my opinion is delving into exactly what Ren's emotional issues were and where they stemmed from. Watching Harrison Ford, it's easy to tell that he lost a son to something that he could not understand; Watching Adam Driver? NotSoMuch. You know that he is conflicted, but why? You don't have to tell the whole story but at least address why he is that way. It just seemed significant to me in that the movie discusses that he has issues, "I feel the seduction of the Light", but never really goes into why.
