I'd say your expectations could never have been met.  Maybe because it wasn't faithful enough to the "expanded universe" or any of the other made up stories that were woven outside of Lucas' original trilogy that weren't included?

 

This story was all about broken families, centered around an old pirate, and the desire to restore their family.  The original story was about a dull farmboy who accepts the improbable opportunity to rescue a princess as told through her handmaiden droids (which was a lift from Kurosawa's The Hidden Fortress.)

 

No, this story was about an orphan on a desert planet finding out that she's a Jedi while being recruited to help the Rebelli-- Resistance save a droid carrying plans for a galaxy saving widget then watching her aging mentor killed inside a death star  by a sith with a red lightsaber that they then escape from and blow up. Reboot is a good description of this story, and that's ok. I just expected a new story not an old one with some tweeks.
