City Council Unanimously approves Amphitheater/Practice Fields

Quote:My bad I guess. I was responding to the city council vote topic and managed to include both my dissatisfaction with the city caving into the Jaguars and my desire to see a winning team. The two are separate issues as pointed out.

With the new upgrades the city will have spent over 100 million towards upgrades and yes this will be borrowed against the future bed taxes.

To be honest I do have a serious hard spot with NFL owners leveraging city's to put out or lose out. Enough said!

My apologies, and with that being said the stadium will give Jacksonville a world class venue that would certainly make it difficult for any owner to want to leave.

Peace out!
I get your frustration with the losing, and I can see how a cynic would think the stadium improvements are a distraction of sorts from the bottom line on field product.

But the truth is, the team needs both a top notch facility and a much better on field product.

We've seen what happens repeatedly when cities don't invest in their stadiums and allow them to become dilapidated and obsolete.  Just look to the three cities that lost their teams.  We are in a market that doesn't have the room for error other markets have.  This is a market that has to be proactive when it comes to the stadium.

By the same token, the losing has gone on long enough.  All of the bells and whistles and new gadgets in the world isn't a substitute for a winning and contending team.  Fans want to go to the stadium with as close to an assurance as possible that they are going to get a good show.  Over the past few years, too often, the team not only hasn't been winning, but hasn't been competitive.  I think for about 2-3 games last year, that was the case. But overall, the team is closer to meeting the minimum acceptable level of competitiveness than it has been in a long time.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!
