And I don't give him a pass for selecting Bortles.  He had Matt Ryan and gave him weapons in ATL, but the defense crumbled there - shutting their window of opportunity.

 

Without fixing our defensive talent, our window won't even open.

 

I'll add a possible third explanation to why he might have been signed to a fifth year on his contract. Dave could have talked to Khan about getting rid of Gus and Khan could have responded to him that Gus was Dave's choice and that they're joined, and if a new head coach comes in Khan would be giving that coach the power to decide on who he wants as GM.

 

Dave might be just as much of a dead man walking as Gus in spite of how positively we feel about him here on the message board. It's pretty hard to excuse taking such a clown as the head coach and being so sure about it while also turning out to be so wrong about the guy as a head coach.
