I thought the same thing. We needed something big to happen. I thought it ended at the commercial break just before everything hit the fan. 

 

The girl is probably the one that killed the Tyreese's girlfriend, too. I don't think Carol killed anyone. My guess is that the girl killed them, and Carol burned them to make it harder to figure out who did it.

I think the baby dying had to happen, how could they go on the run and the baby still be alive? I'm just glad they spared showing it on TV I don't think I could've handled that.
 

 

I don't think the baby is dead. The baby represents the new world, and she adds a whole new element to the series. The baby (and Carl) keep Rick going.
