We aren't building through FA, getting some veteran help to aid with the talent deficiencies on defense will help a lot.

If we can sign some talent, draft mostly defense, we can get the d to either start turning around or be right around a middle of the pack defense. Teams that generally spend have problems at qb. We dont. Dolphins are an exception, but it's not because the talent isn't there, it's because Tannehill royally sucked.

NE also has done pretty well with those Revis, Randy Moss, Sheard, etc. Signings who helped bolster their team.

Have you checked where either of those teams ranked in FA spending for those seasons?
